The regional branch manager of the Bank of Korea was reportedly caught by police urinating in public while intoxicated, and caused a disturbance by claiming, "I was drinking with a high-ranking official."
According to Yonhap News on November 6, police received a report at around 10 p.m. on November 4 that "a man is urinating in public" at the entrance of an apartment complex in Onui-dong, Chuncheon.
When officers arrived, they asked the man for his identification, but he refused to answer and instead mentioned the name of a senior Gangwon police official, insisting that he had been drinking with him and causing a commotion. After the police told him that there was a witness, the man admitted to urinating in public and revealed that he was a branch manager at the Bank of Korea.
It was reported that the man had been drinking that evening with local institutional leaders and was on his way home when the incident occurred.
Pursuant to the Enforcement Decree of the Misdemeanor Punishment Act, the police imposed a 50,000 won fine on the branch manager for public urination.
The notice of the fine is an administrative measure by the chief of the local police station and, unlike a court-issued fine, does not result in a criminal record.
