On the morning of November 6, Cho Kuk held an Emergency Response Committee meeting at the National Assembly and announced, "I will resign as chairman of the Emergency Response Committee this afternoon to run for the position of party leader."
He expressed his gratitude to party members, saying, "I thank my fellow party members who offered much criticism and advice during the nationwide party member meetings. Through the Emergency Response Committee, I have come to realize an important truth," and added, "Only when there is self-reflection and mutual respect can a community truly become one."
Addressing the committee members, he said, "Although I am stepping down as chairman today, I ask that you successfully complete the remaining 'New Party Vision.' Innovation is a continuous relay race."
He further stated, "I hope that the next leadership, which will be elected on November 23, will adopt the reform plans developed by the Emergency Response Committee and continue the relay for the party's innovation."
The Cho Kuk Innovation Party will accept applications for candidates for party leader and supreme council member for five days, from November 6 to November 10.
The party congress to elect the new leadership will be held on November 23 at Osco in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.
