Retro Sentiment Meets Local Resources... Boosting the Economy and Fostering Intergenerational Connections
Sokcho City in Gangwon Province will operate the "2025 Seorak-dong Revitalization Program - Nostalgic Sentimental Travel," an experiential themed travel package, four times throughout November.
This program is organized by Seorak Travelers Center and is designed as a one-night, two-day experiential tourism content that combines retro sentiment with local resources from the Seorak-dong and Sokcho areas under the theme of "Nostalgic Sentimental Travel."
Participants will be grouped into four teams of approximately 15 people each, totaling 60 participants. Applications can be submitted on a first-come, first-served basis through the official website.
Participants will wear old-style school uniforms and, under the concept of a "school trip," tour major attractions in Seoraksan and Sokcho while enjoying a variety of experiences.
The main program includes ▲ a guided tour of Abai Village and a Hamgyeong-style dumpling-making experience ▲ a ride on the Seoraksan cable car ▲ a visit to Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market ▲ autumn foliage trekking in Seoraksan and a Buddhist culture experience. These activities are expected to evoke nostalgia for the middle-aged and older generations, while offering new experiences for younger participants.
Accommodation will be arranged in partnership with lodging complexes in the Seorak-dong area, which is expected to help revitalize the local lodging and food & beverage industries as well as the local economy.
Sokcho City aims to use this program to attract more tourists and inject new vitality into Seorak-dong, a tourist destination that has experienced prolonged stagnation.
Lee Byungseon, Mayor of Sokcho, stated, "Sokcho in November is the perfect time for autumn travel, and a nostalgic sentimental journey utilizing Seorak-dong's local resources will go beyond simple tourism to foster intergenerational connections and provide a meaningful opportunity to enjoy both nature and culture. I hope this program becomes a reason for people to revisit Seorak-dong and develops into a sustainable tourism model where local residents and visitors can come together."
