The prosecution has initiated detention procedures against a salt farm owner (59) for the illegal employment and forced labor of an individual with an intellectual disability.
The Criminal Division 2 of the Mokpo Branch of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Hwang Youngseop) requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A (59) on November 5, on charges of quasi-fraud, violation of the Welfare of Disabled Persons Act, and violation of the Act on the Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and Relief of Their Rights.
Mr. A is accused of failing to pay 96 million won in wages to Mr. B (65), an individual with an intellectual disability, who worked at his salt farm in Sinan, South Jeolla Province, for approximately 10 years from April 2014 to August last year.
The victimization of Mr. B was uncovered during a comprehensive survey on the working conditions of salt farm laborers conducted in the Sinan area in 2023.
