Shinhan University Selected as Additional Implementing Institution for the 2025 Gyeonggi-do RISE Project
Establishing a Future University Model Centered on ESG and Carbon Neutrality through the RISE Project
Emerging as a Leading Innovation Hub for Carbon Neutrality in Response to the Climate Crisis
Shinhan University (President Kang Sungjong) has been additionally selected as an implementing university for the "2025 Gyeonggi-do Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) Project," promoted by Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of Education. This selection is seen as further recognition of the university's role in promoting balanced development and fostering a sustainable innovation ecosystem in the northern Gyeonggi region.
Shinhan University has formed a consortium with Kyungdong University and Yewon Arts University under the "Regional Cluster Development (General University) Type" and has received 1 billion won in first-year project funding. With this project, the university plans to take the lead in establishing an innovation ecosystem in northern Gyeonggi, centered around the university.
Through the RISE project, Shinhan University has set "Building a Regional Innovation Ecosystem Based on Carbon Neutrality" and "Establishing a Future University Model Centered on ESG" as its core objectives.
In particular, the university plans to promote eco-friendly energy transition reflecting the industrial structure and regional characteristics of northern Gyeonggi, support ESG management for local small and medium-sized enterprises, and implement sustainable urban and industrial transformation programs. In addition, by strengthening its industry-academia cooperation model that grows together with the local community, the university aims to establish a "research and education platform for solving regional issues." Through these efforts, Shinhan University intends to provide practical solutions to the challenges faced by northern Gyeonggi, such as responding to climate change, industrial transformation, and talent outflow.
President Kang Sungjong stated, "This additional selection for the RISE project signifies that Shinhan University is growing into a key institution leading a sustainable future for northern Gyeonggi," adding, "We will create a new development model where local industries, culture, and talent grow together, with carbon neutrality in response to the climate crisis and ESG at its core."
Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of Education plan to proceed with administrative procedures, including signing the agreement, within November, after which the project funding will be provided and full-scale project implementation will begin.
