The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee announced on the 5th that Lim Munyoung, Standing Vice Chairman, held a meeting with Ben Mann, Co-founder of Anthropic.
During the meeting, the committee introduced the establishment and implementation status of the "Korea Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan" and discussed Anthropic's AI safety and responsible scaling strategies, plans to enter the Korean market, and potential areas for cooperation.
Ben Mann stated, "Korea is a key market, ranking among the top five globally in usage of the generative AI model 'Claude.' Following Japan and India, we plan to establish an Asia-Pacific office in Korea in early 2026." He added, "Based on our experience in developing safe and trustworthy AI models, we hope to contribute to the responsible spread of AI and enhance the global competitiveness of Korean startups and companies through collaboration with Korea."
In response, Lim Munyoung, Vice Chairman, said, "We must also manage the risks that come with the advancement of AI models," and highly praised Anthropic's efforts to develop safe AI models.
Vice Chairman Lim further emphasized, "A safe AI ecosystem is essential for advancing toward a foundational AI society," and expressed hope that the establishment of Anthropic's Korean office would serve as an opportunity for ongoing cooperation between both sides.
