GIST to Hold Inauguration and Retirement Ceremony for 4th and 5th Chairpersons of Development Foundation on November 6

Kim Haemyung, 4th Chairperson, Donated 460 Million Won During Tenure
Contributed to Advancement Through Social Contribution Education and the "1,000-Won Breakfast" Program
New 5th Chairperson Is Choi Eunmo, Chairman of Mujin Service Co., Ltd.

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced that it will hold the inauguration and retirement ceremony for the 4th and 5th Chairpersons of the GIST Development Foundation on November 6.

The GIST Development Foundation, established in 2016, is a core partner organization that supports GIST’s educational and research activities, promotes a culture of giving, advances industry-academia cooperation, and contributes to the local community, thereby underpinning GIST’s sustainable growth.

In addition to supporting the enhancement of national research and development capabilities, the foundation is also committed to addressing local community issues. It has consistently carried out social contribution activities under the theme of "sharing and mutual growth," such as donating books to children in underserved regions and providing scholarships to outstanding students.

During his tenure, the 4th Chairperson Kim Haemyung elevated the foundation’s stature and further strengthened its donation base through a variety of initiatives, including: expanding the culture of giving by hosting the "Night of Sponsorship" event; organizing a musical performance to commemorate GIST’s 30th anniversary and planning the outdoor installation art exhibition "Whale Swimming in the Universe"; promoting the scientific book donation project; and supporting the GIST Technology Management Academy (GTMBA) Alumni Association and social contribution education programs.

Chairperson Kim contributed to the university’s development by donating a total of 460 million won to the foundation-160 million won before his inauguration and 300 million won after. These donations have been used to support student welfare and lay the groundwork for the foundation’s sustainable growth, including the stable operation of the on-campus souvenir shop "Genius COOP" and the "1,000-Won Breakfast" program for students.

Additionally, the foundation allocated 100 million won from Chairperson Kim’s donation to GIST for the establishment of the GIST School of Technology Management and the development of its curriculum, supporting the realization of the university’s future educational vision.

Choi Eunmo, Chairman of Mujin Service Co., Ltd., who will be inaugurated as the 5th Chairperson on November 6, is recognized as an industry leader who has grown the domestic battery manufacturing equipment sector to a global top-three level since founding his company in 1988.

Outgoing 4th Chairperson Kim Haemyung stated, "It has been deeply rewarding to be part of GIST’s growth and transformation through the foundation, and thanks to the passion and support of donors and the entire GIST family, the foundation has achieved significant growth. I now entrust the foundation to the distinguished new Chairperson, Choi Eunmo, and will continue to sincerely support the university’s advancement."
