A Variety of Exhibition-Linked Programs Offered
The Busan Museum of Modern Art announced on November 5 that it will host a variety of exhibition and educational programs throughout the month of November.
First, the museum will present the exhibition '2025 Busan Museum of Modern Art Cinemedia_After the Movie.' This exhibition explores the intersection of the hybridity and historical legacy of the film medium with technological environments, shedding light on how contemporary cinema is evolving into 'other forms of cinema.' The museum will also offer a film workshop, allowing participants to directly experience the newly expanding forms and production processes of film media in the digital age. The workshop will be held over four sessions: November 6-7 and November 13-14 (two sessions per group). Participants will use 16mm analog film to practice film development and printing processes. With explanations from film production experts, participants will have the opportunity to physically experience analog film. The workshop will be divided into two groups-professionals and the general public-and participation is available by advance reservation, limited to 20 people per group on a first-come, first-served basis. Selected video works produced during the workshop will be screened at the museum’s Geukjangsook (Theater, Basement Level 1) after a selection process.
On November 15, Kim Eunjeong of AAMP (Asian Artist Moving Image Platform), a participating artist group, will present her work 'Circuit, Invisible Coordinates' as a performance linked to the exhibition. Performers Kim Eunjeong, Kim Taeyeon, and Hong Gwangmin will capture subtle sounds occurring on-site in real time, amplifying and delaying them to visualize invisible movements within the space through sound. Admission is open and available on a first-come, first-served basis according to on-site guidance.
On November 28, Kim Jihoon, Professor at Chung-Ang University and Director of the Center for Film Media Studies, will deliver a special lecture. The lecture will examine how the participating films in the exhibition intervene in history under the premise of being 'the only cinema,' through the lens of post-cinema studies and the landscape of 21st-century moving images and film exhibitions. Advance reservations are available for up to 30 people, with additional spots open to on-site participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
On November 29, the academic symposium 'Cinema, the Cinematic, the Boundaries of Cinema,' will be held in conjunction with the exhibition. Part 1, 'Where Does Cinema Begin?' will explore the aesthetic, media, and historical meanings of 'the cinematic.' Part 2, 'Cinema and Art,' will feature multi-layered presentations and discussions on cinema and exhibition spaces from the perspective of art. Advance reservations are available for up to 50 people, with additional on-site participation possible on a first-come, first-served basis. This program is supported by the Busan Metropolitan City Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) project and co-hosted with the Pusan National University Film Research Institute.
Kang Seungwan, Director of the Busan Museum of Modern Art, stated, "Through the diverse exhibition and educational programs held in November, we hope to enhance understanding and engagement with the programs, providing opportunities not only for appreciation but also for communication and participation."
Participation in the programs is available by advance reservation or on-site. For further details, please refer to the Busan Museum of Modern Art website or contact the museum by phone.
