Seongnam City Holds Tripartite Meeting with Corporate Taxi Labor, Management, and Government
Sharing Industry Issues and Discussing Support Measures
On November 5, Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sangjin) held a meeting in the City Hall’s first conference room, bringing together corporate taxi labor, management, and government representatives to share current issues facing the local taxi industry and discuss directions for its development.

The meeting was attended by a total of about 30 participants, including Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin, Kim Junhee, Head of the Eastern Gyeonggi Branch of the National Taxi Workers’ Union, 12 other related officials, and 16 representatives from corporate taxi companies. They engaged in a wide-ranging discussion on improving working conditions, institutional support, and ways to expand welfare for transportation workers.
In his opening remarks, Mayor Shin expressed his gratitude to the taxi industry for their dedication to ensuring citizens’ safe transportation despite difficult circumstances such as the economic downturn and labor shortages. He stated, "Seongnam City will continue to provide ongoing support to strengthen the industry’s competitiveness and improve employee welfare."
During the meeting, Mayor Shin Sangjin received a plaque of appreciation in recognition of his contributions to the development of the corporate taxi transportation business. The plaques were presented separately by the Gyeonggi-do Taxi Transportation Business Association (Chairman Shim Jaecheon), the Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters of the National Taxi Workers’ Union Federation (Chairman Lee Yongho), and the National Democratic Taxi Workers’ Union (Chairman Lee Jongjun).
Shim Jaecheon, Chairman of the Gyeonggi-do Taxi Transportation Business Association, said, "I am grateful to Mayor Shin Sangjin for providing significant support to the taxi industry, which is experiencing severe management difficulties, by prioritizing the vehicle reduction compensation program and the group insurance program for corporate taxi drivers. I ask for your continued interest and support to further revitalize the taxi industry."
Mayor Shin Sangjin responded, "Through close communication with the taxi industry, we will develop practical policies to improve management and strengthen welfare for transportation workers. I also ask the industry to work together to create a transportation environment that is more pleasant and safer for citizens."
