A Step Toward K-Star World
Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, is once again heating up with K-POP fever. The global excitement surrounding K-POP is now coming alive through the dance moves of Hanam citizens.
The city of Hanam (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) is hosting the "Hanam K-POP Dance Challenge," inviting citizens to participate directly and continuing the excitement from last month's "2025 Global K-POP Dance Challenge in Hanam," which captivated fans around the world. This time, citizens will take center stage and showcase their passion for K-POP online.
The city will be recruiting participants for the "Hanam K-POP Dance Challenge" from the 5th to the 18th. Eligible participants are elementary, middle, and high school students residing in Hanam, or Hanam citizens under the age of 18 who love K-POP. If applying as a family, adults may also participate.
Participants can freely enter as individuals or teams. They must film a "cover dance video" to K-POP music, with no restrictions on format, and submit it to the designated email address.
Videos filmed at Hanam landmarks such as Misa Lake Park, Union Tower, or Dangjeong Field will receive extra points.
All submitted videos will be posted on the official Hanam City YouTube channel, where citizens can participate in online voting by clicking "like." The final ten teams (or individuals) will be selected based on a combined score of online votes (50%) and expert evaluation (50%). The winners will be announced on November 28, and the mayor's commendation will be awarded to the selected participants.
This event is a follow-up project to the "Global K-POP Dance Challenge in Hanam," which drew attention in October when 20 K-POP dance influencers from around the world, representing a combined fandom of 70 million, participated.
At that time, all seats at the Hanam Arts Center Grand Theater were sold out, and the live broadcast of the event throughout the city established Hanam as the "City of K-POP." Through this citizen-participation challenge, Hanam City aims to spread that excitement throughout the region, offering dreams to youth and a stage to citizens.
Hanam City is building a "city where culture is part of daily life" through various performance programs such as "Music In The Hanam" and "Stage Hanam." In addition, the city is promoting the creation of "K-Star World," a large-scale cultural complex that combines a K-POP concert hall and a film studio, positioning Hanam to become a global hub for performance culture.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae of Hanam stated, "This challenge, where citizens directly participate in creating the stage, will be a meaningful opportunity to showcase Hanam's cultural energy," adding, "We will continue to develop Hanam into the leading cultural city of the metropolitan area so that citizens can enjoy a variety of performance cultures in their daily lives."
