Coinciding with the Gangwon Bio Expo, a platform for sharing green bio-related technologies and research will be held in Chuncheon.
The Chuncheon city government (Mayor Yuk Donghan) will host the "2025 Green Bio International Symposium" at the Chuncheon ICT Venture Center on November 6. The symposium aims to facilitate technology exchange and promote international joint research in the green bio industry by presenting the latest research trends and strengthening research collaboration networks through dedicated sessions.
The symposium will serve as a pre-event for the "Gangwon Bio Expo," which will take place from November 7 to 9 at the Bomnae Gymnasium. It will also mark the academic beginning of Chuncheon's vision for a major transformation in the bio industry.
During the event, the city plans to share the latest research achievements, including the development of functional food ingredients using special-purpose crops, high value-added research in agri-food, and analysis of the anticancer activity of Korean-style hemp extract components.
Notably, speakers from overseas institutions such as Hokkaido University and Juntendo University in Japan, as well as Yangzhou University in China, will participate to introduce the current state of the green bio industry in Japan and China and discuss strategies for international joint research. In addition, the Chuncheon Bio Industry Promotion Agency will hold Korea-China and Korea-Japan joint research cooperation meetings and facility tours for international speakers alongside the symposium, seeking practical avenues for collaboration among participants.
Since 2020, the Chuncheon city government has continued to pursue joint research and green bio industrialization projects not only with domestic experts and research institutions but also with those in China and Vietnam. Through these efforts, the city is helping local companies commercialize products by securing natural material resources, which are expected to become key future food sources.
Mayor Yuk Donghan stated, "We hope this symposium will become a vibrant platform for technology exchange and joint research collaboration between domestic and international researchers and companies," adding, "Chuncheon will continue to actively support policies to foster the green bio industry as a high value-added new growth engine for the region."
