First Shipment of New 'Greensis' Variety
Local Consumers Show Enthusiastic Response
Ulju County in Ulsan has dispatched the 'Ulju Pear Promotion and Sales Team' to the United States in an effort to expand into the North American market and target local consumers.
On November 5, Ulju County announced that from October 29 to November 6, it is conducting promotional activities and business meetings in Los Angeles and Hawaii to promote Ulju Pears and expand export volumes.

This dispatch is a strategic move to maintain and expand export channels despite the recent deterioration of export conditions for pears, which has been caused by the United States imposing tariffs on Chinese products and tightening safety inspections.
Producers of Ulju Pears directly participated in the promotion team to analyze local consumer trends, strengthen trust with existing partners, and explore ways to enter new markets. The team also checked local responses to the first shipment of the new 'Greensis' variety and assessed the potential for future export expansion.
From October 30 to November 4 (local time), the team held tasting and promotional events for local consumers at major retail outlets such as H Mart Buena Park, Seafood Market, and Don Quijote in Hawaii. The Greensis variety received an enthusiastic response for its unique aroma and crisp texture, leading to discussions about additional supply in the Hawaiian market.
The team also visited the Los Angeles branch of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), the local subsidiary of NH Trading, and others to share strategies for responding to U.S. tariffs, market changes resulting from the increased market share of Chinese pears, and local distribution trends. In addition, they held meetings with buyers from the Seoul Trading LA branch to discuss strategies for expanding into the North American and Canadian markets.
An official from Ulju County stated, "Through this year's Ulju Pear export promotion activities, we secured the supply of 420 tons (approximately 1.7 million dollars) and established a stable sales channel in the Hawaiian market. In particular, the strong response to the new Greensis variety motivates us to further strengthen the competitiveness and brand value of Ulju Pears by diversifying our varieties."
