KOSPI Retreats to 4,120 Mark Amid Heavy Foreign Selling Yonhap News Agency

The KOSPI closed lower, weighed down by heavy selling from institutional and foreign investors.


On November 4, the KOSPI ended trading at 4,121.74, down 100.13 points (2.37%) from the previous day. Trading volume was provisionally tallied at 421.13 million shares, with a trading value of 20.7011 trillion won.


By investor type, institutions and foreigners recorded net sales of 498.5 billion won and 2.2231 trillion won, respectively, while individuals posted net purchases of 2.6894 trillion won. In the futures market, institutions and individuals each net purchased 1.2471 trillion won and 613 billion won, respectively, while foreigners net sold 1.8822 trillion won. Program trading saw net sales of 131.4 billion won in arbitrage transactions and 1.4351 trillion won in non-arbitrage transactions.


Most sectors declined. The securities sector fell by 4.87%, electronics by 4.33%, transportation equipment by 3.61%, manufacturing by 3.13%, transportation and storage by 1.53%, metals by 1.27%, machinery and equipment by 1.14%, distribution by 0.86%, IT services by 0.86%, telecommunications by 0.52%, finance by 0.41%, construction by 0.32%, and electricity and gas by 0.24%. In contrast, food, beverage, and tobacco rose by 1.8%, paper and wood by 1.22%, pharmaceuticals by 1.16%, and general services by 0.56%.


Among large-cap stocks, most declined. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix dropped by 5.58% and 5.48%, respectively. LG Energy Solution fell by 0.53%, Hyundai Motor by 5.32%, Hanwha Aerospace by 3.07%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries by 6.59%, Kia by 2.8%, and NAVER by 2.73%. On the other hand, KB Financial Group rose by 3.31%, while Samsung Biologics and Doosan Enerbility ended the session unchanged.


On this day, 381 stocks advanced, 507 declined, and 39 remained unchanged. One stock reached the upper price limit.


The KOSDAQ index closed higher. On this day, the KOSDAQ ended at 926.57, up 12.02 points (1.31%) from the previous session. By investor type, institutions and foreigners net purchased 166.2 billion won and 230 billion won, respectively, while individuals net sold 365.2 billion won.


Most large-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ rose. Alteogen gained 4.97%, Ecopro 0.95%, Rainbow Robotics 1.85%, HLB 13.68%, Peptron 3.04%, ABL Bio 7.65%, Legochem Bio 5.85%, Samchundang Pharm 2.77%, Leeno Industrial 1.55%, Voronoi 10.89%, Kolon TissueGene 6.47%, and EO Technics 20.53%. In contrast, Ecopro BM fell by 1.88% and PharmaResearch by 1.11%.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,437.7 won, up 6.4 won from the previous day.
