Icheon Designated as a "Women-Friendly City" by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family

On November 4, the city of Icheon in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has been officially designated as a "2025 Women-Friendly City" by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.

Icheon Designated as a "Women-Friendly City" by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family

A "Women-Friendly City" refers to a city where women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and other socially vulnerable groups are considered, where both men and women participate equally in local policies and development processes, and where the benefits are distributed fairly to all residents, ensuring the growth and safety of women.

To achieve this designation, Icheon has promoted a variety of policies and initiatives centered on five main objectives: establishing a foundation for gender equality, expanding women's economic and social participation, enhancing community safety, and strengthening the capacity for community engagement.

In particular, the city established a women's employment council and a dedicated safety task force, and expanded the citizen participation group for women-friendly city initiatives, focusing on advancing women-friendly policies in collaboration with local residents.

During the designation review, the city presented the "Icheon 24-Hour Childcare Center" as its flagship project, emphasizing the distinctiveness and effectiveness of its care policies tailored to local characteristics and needs.

Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon, stated, "We will create an Icheon where gender equality becomes a part of daily life and all citizens can live safely and happily."

Following this designation, the city plans to hold a signing ceremony for the women-friendly city designation agreement with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family on the 26th.
