The Government Employees Pension Service announced on November 4 that it will operate the "2025 Retired Public Officials Community Village" to support retired public officials in returning to farming and rural living, as well as to promote balanced regional development in response to a super-aged society.
The 2025 Retired Public Officials Community Village is being run as a one-month, short-term pilot program by utilizing idle facilities such as local rural experience and recreation villages. After an announcement and selection process for residents last month, 44 households have moved into eight villages located in Gangwon Province (Yanggu, Yangyang), Chungcheong Province (Taean, Seocheon), Jeolla Province (Suncheon, Jangheung), and Jeju Province (Hawon, Seogwipo).
Main programs for residents of the community village include education on returning to farming and rural living, local tours, on-farm job experiences, community service, and village events.
Park Wangcheol, Head of Welfare at the Government Employees Pension Service, stated, "In connection with the government’s national agenda for balanced regional development, we have relaunched the community village program for retirees, which was converted into a government project in 2023. Based on the achievements and experiences from this year’s pilot operation, we will strive to support more retired public officials in returning to farming and rural living."
Meanwhile, the agency plans to expand the community villages to 30 locations nationwide, accommodating more than 400 households annually starting next year, in response to demand from retired public officials. Various types of villages and programs will be offered, including short-term experience, regional settlement, retirement preparation, and return-to-farming education, to support stable settlement in local communities.
