The automotive DRAM product developed by Samsung Electronics, based on low-power LPDDR5X, has officially obtained the highest safety grade, "ASIL D," certification from EXIDA, a global functional safety certification body.

According to industry sources and the Korea Foreign Company Association (KOFA) on November 4, Samsung Electronics' automotive DRAM successfully passed all evaluations last month, including system and hardware safety assessments, safety mechanism verification, and development process audits conducted by EXIDA, thereby earning the certification.


With this certification, Samsung Electronics is expected to further strengthen its trust-based relationships with global clients in the next-generation autonomous driving platform and automotive high-speed memory markets. This certification signifies that the product meets the highest level of functional safety requirements demanded for automotive semiconductors.


EXIDA is a leading institution in the field of global functional safety standards, such as ISO/PAS 21448 (SOTIF), and has extensive experience certifying a wide range of products, including semiconductors, controllers, and autonomous driving systems. EXIDA explained that, for this assessment, it conducted hardware integrity analysis, fault injection testing, and system-level safety verification of the LPDDR5X memory developed by Samsung Electronics.


The LPDDR5X product developed by Samsung Electronics is a core memory component used in high-performance in-vehicle computing and autonomous driving control systems (AD/ADAS). It incorporates hardware safety mechanisms designed to minimize system failure rates while maintaining high bandwidth and low power consumption characteristics.


Kim Hyunjo, CEO of EXIDA Korea, stated, "Samsung Electronics has achieved the highest level of safety and reliability required for automotive applications in LPDDR5X by meticulously combining high-performance memory technology with functional safety architecture," adding, "In particular, the systematic approach to the ECC engine for data integrity protection and diagnostic coverage was outstanding."


Cho Hyundeok, Senior Vice President of the Product Planning Team at Samsung Electronics' Memory Business Division, said, "EXIDA's international standard certification demonstrates that Samsung Electronics is achieving both technological advancement and safety," and added, "Going forward, Samsung Electronics will continue to provide the most trusted memory solutions to global customers in the autonomous driving and humanoid markets."
