The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency (hereinafter referred to as KOCCA) announced on November 4 that, during the Tokyo Film Market 2025 held in Tokyo, Japan, they organized promotional and business events to support the entry of domestic online video service (OTT) platforms into the Japanese market, resulting in export consultations totaling 236 billion KRW.
The Tokyo Film Market is the largest video content market in Japan, held in conjunction with the Tokyo International Film Festival. It is an international business event where intellectual property (IP), remake rights, co-productions, and investment attraction take place. This year, 23 domestic broadcasting and video content companies participated, including Astory, Channel A, CJ ENM, Coupang Play, KBS Media, KT Studio Genie, MBC, SLL, Studio S, and U+Mobile TV.
KOCCA supported the planning and operation of the Tving session at the "Northeast Asia Video Summit 2025," hosted by the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA) on October 28. The event was attended by representatives from global media companies such as TBS, DAZN Japan, Warner Bros. Discovery, and A+E.
Cho Sunghyun, Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Tving, delivered a presentation on "Tving's Growth Strategy as a K-OTT," introducing a global distribution strategy centered on original IP and a local partnership model.
On October 30, U+Mobile TV held an original content showcase, "LG Uplus Drama Premiere 2025," at the Tokyo Metropolitan Trade Center. At this event, "Lovephobia" and "Future's Future," both supported by the "2024-2025 OTT Specialized Content Production Support" program, were unveiled in Japan for the first time.
The actors and directors of "Lovephobia" and "Future's Future" took the stage to introduce the works and screen highlight videos. With approximately 100 attendees, "Lovephobia" signed an on-site contract with a Japanese telecommunications company.
Park Innam, Head of the Broadcasting and Video Division at KOCCA, stated, "Through our achievements in the local market, we have once again confirmed that K-content and domestic OTT platforms have secured a leading position in the Asian market. We will continue to strengthen Korea-Japan cooperation and global connections to support the sustainable growth of our content beyond the boundaries of genre and platform."
