36.5 Million Cups of Decaffeinated Coffee Sold This Year
Decaffeinated Caffe Americano Surpasses Grapefruit Honey Black Tea for Third Place in Annual Sales
Starbucks Korea announced on November 4 that sales of decaffeinated coffee from January to October this year reached 36.5 million cups, a 35% increase compared to the same period last year. This figure has already surpassed last year's annual sales of 32.7 million cups.
The strong performance of decaffeinated coffee has also led to changes in the annual sales rankings. Last year, "Grapefruit Honey Black Tea" ranked third after "Caffe Americano" and "Caffe Latte," but this year, it was overtaken by decaffeinated Caffe Americano.
As demand for decaffeinated coffee rises, the proportion of decaffeinated among all Caffe Americanos reached 13%. This means that one out of every eight cups of Caffe Americano sold is decaffeinated, indicating that decaffeinated coffee has become a regular menu item that can be enjoyed at any time, rather than a choice for specific situations.
Starbucks is also running a variety of decaffeinated promotions so customers can enjoy decaffeinated coffee at reasonable prices. For Starbucks Rewards members, Starbucks offers the "One More Coffee Coupon," which allows customers who purchase brewed coffee, Caffe Americano, Caffe Latte, Vanilla Latte, or Cold Brew to enjoy a tall-sized decaffeinated Caffe Americano for 2,000 won-a 60% discount-30 minutes after their purchase.
Additionally, Starbucks operates the "Evening Event," which offers an immediate 30% discount on beverages purchased with a sandwich or cake every day from 6 p.m. until closing time.
Lee Myunghoon, Head of Beverages at Starbucks, said, "Decaffeinated coffee is becoming an excellent alternative for customers who want to enjoy the authentic taste and aroma of coffee without the burden of caffeine," and added, "Reflecting the rapidly growing demand for decaffeinated options each year, Starbucks will continue to introduce differentiated products to further enhance customer satisfaction."
