Gyeonggi Province has urged residents to receive influenza vaccinations promptly.
Previously, on October 17, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency issued an influenza epidemic advisory.
On November 4, Gyeonggi Province announced that the influenza epidemic began two months earlier than last year and emphasized that seniors, pregnant women, and children should be vaccinated without delay.
Since September 22, Gyeonggi Province has been administering the national influenza vaccination program. The eligible groups include seniors aged 65 and older (born on or before December 31, 1960), children aged 6 months to 13 years, and pregnant women. Seniors aged 65 and older are strongly encouraged to receive both the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines simultaneously.
As of October 28, the influenza vaccination rate among seniors aged 65 and older in the province was 50.7%, with 1.23 million people vaccinated. The rate for children who received at least one dose was 38.6%, with 530,000 children vaccinated.
Yoo Youngcheol, Director of the Health and Wellness Bureau, stated, "With the influenza epidemic starting earlier than usual this year, vaccination is a highly effective means of protection. I encourage seniors, children, and pregnant women who have not yet been vaccinated to complete their vaccinations before the epidemic intensifies, so that everyone can prepare for a healthy winter."
