Gyeongsan Team Cruises with 3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 8 Bronze Medals at the National Para Games

26 Athletes Compete in 12 Events; More Medals Expected Before the End of the Games

Gyeongsan City (Mayor Cho Hyunil) announced that from October 31 to November 5, a total of 26 people-including 19 athletes and 7 officials-are representing North Gyeongsang Province at the 45th National Para Games, which is being held in Busan, and are achieving excellent results in 12 different events.


The Gyeongsan City team is competing in 12 events: park golf, field golf, billiards, bowling, weightlifting, athletics track, athletics field, rowing, table tennis, taekwondo, football, and shuffleboard. The Gyeongsan City Sports Association for the Disabled is visiting the venues to meet with the athletes and coaches, offering encouragement on site.


According to the interim tally, Seo Jeongguk won a gold medal in the men's 15km individual road cycling event, and Hwang Jeongin added another gold medal in the women's individual park golf event.


In the men's 1500m athletics track event, Cha Sumyeong secured a gold medal, further raising the profile of Gyeongsan City.


In addition, Choi Moonjeong won a silver medal in the women's three-cushion billiards singles. Bronze medals were awarded to Choi Moonjeong in women's one-cushion billiards singles; Lee Seonja in women's bowling doubles, singles, and mixed four-person team events; Oh Wonjong, Choi Sanggyu, and Lee Jungeon in the men's taekwondo poomsae team event; Park Sanghong, Jeong Seongyun, and Choi Kyungseon in the mixed shuffleboard team event; Oh Wonjong in men's taekwondo sparring over 80kg; and Lee Jungeon in men's taekwondo sparring under 63kg. As the competition is ongoing, additional medals are expected.


Cho Hyunil, Mayor of Gyeongsan City (also President of the Gyeongsan City Sports Association for the Disabled), stated, "All citizens are cheering together for the passion and challenge of our team," and added, "We will continue to review various support measures and foster elite athletes to promote para sports and improve athletic performance."
