Baekjegobun-ro 7-gil is a major commercial district connecting Jamsilsaenae Station and Jamsil Baseball Stadium, with a high volume of foot traffic, leading to continuous calls for improvements to the pedestrian environment. Although it was established as a pedestrian-priority road in 2016, repeated excavation had damaged the pavement, compromising both safety and aesthetics.
To address residents' inconvenience, the district secured 440 million won in special adjustment grants from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in February of this year and began a full-scale overhaul. The project involved replacing the road pavement along a 450-meter section from 13, Olympic-ro 8-gil to 57, Baekjegobun-ro 7-gil, and applying highly visible design coatings to naturally encourage drivers to slow down.
In addition, baseball-themed graphics and color patterns symbolizing 'Sports City Songpa' were added to enhance the street's identity and vibrancy. With this renovation, the movement paths for pedestrians and vehicles are now clearly separated, which is expected to help prevent traffic accidents.
The district expects that this improvement, in conjunction with the Jamsil Sports Complex Sports and MICE Complex Project, will contribute to revitalizing the local commercial district and strengthening tourism competitiveness.
Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "The area around Baekjegobun-ro 7-gil is a representative alley commercial district of Songpa and a street filled with residents' memories. With the creation of a safe and pleasant pedestrian environment through this renovation, we expect to lead a refined pedestrian culture and restore vitality to the local commercial district."
