The Daegu Dalseo District Council (Chairman Seo Minwoo) announced on November 2 that it had been selected as the top-performing local council in the nation, winning the Grand Prize at the 19th Korea Legislative Awards organized by the Korea Institute of Public Autonomy.
The Korea Legislative Awards, organized by the Korea Institute of Public Autonomy, are judged fairly through a comprehensive process including reviews by a panel of professional judges and interviews, targeting local councils across the country. The Dalseo District Council received high marks for its active legislative activities centered on residents, policy proposals focused on addressing issues in daily life, and its contribution to spreading an open legislative culture.
Members of the Daegu Dalseo District Council gathered in one place to celebrate receiving the Grand Prize at the Korea Legislative Awards.
Since 2011, the Dalseo District Council has expanded its pioneering Children's Council program-the first of its kind in the nation-to include on-site meetings and a Youth Council for teenagers, actively reflecting the demands of young people in policy-making. The council has also contributed to strengthening the local community by revising and enacting 47 ordinances initiated by council members to improve resident convenience, and by working collaboratively with residents and the executive branch to address key local issues such as the relocation of the Daegu city hall and the expansion of the waste incineration plant. In addition, the council has held 15 forums on various livelihood-related policies, actively incorporating the voices of its residents.
As a result of these efforts, the council was honored with the Grand Prize in the institutional category, earning nationwide recognition as a "council trusted by residents" and a "council that works alongside the community."
Chairman Seo Minwoo commented, "This award is the result of all Dalseo District Council members listening to the voices of our residents and working together for change in the community. We will continue to communicate closely with our residents and build a council that implements practical policies."
Meanwhile, the Korea Legislative Awards is a prestigious nationwide award presented annually to outstanding local councils that have contributed to the development of local autonomy and the improvement of resident welfare. The awards ceremony was held on October 29 at the Air Force Hotel in Seoul.
