The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series for the second consecutive year.
On November 2, 2025 (Korea Standard Time), the Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in an away game at Rogers Centre in Ontario, Canada, in Game 7 of the 2025 MLB World Series (best-of-seven), after an intense battle that went into 11 extra innings.
The Dodgers have maintained their position as World Series champions for two consecutive years, following last year's victory. This marks the first time in 25 years that a team has won back-to-back World Series titles since the New York Yankees achieved three consecutive championships from 1998 to 2000.
With the score tied at 4-4, Toronto failed to capitalize on a bases-loaded, one-out opportunity in the bottom of the ninth inning. In the top of the 11th inning, with two outs, Will Smith of the Dodgers hit a solo home run off Toronto's Shane Bieber on the third pitch, giving the Dodgers the lead.
This is the first time in nine years, since 2016, that Game 7 of the MLB World Series has gone into extra innings.
Yamamoto Yoshinobu, the Dodgers' Japanese pitcher, started Game 6 the previous day, pitching six innings and throwing 96 pitches with only one run allowed, earning the win. He then appeared as a reliever in the ninth inning of Game 7, pitching scoreless innings and securing three of the Dodgers' four wins in this year's World Series on his own.
Kim Hyesung of the Dodgers did not have an opportunity to play earlier in the World Series but appeared as a substitute in this game. He became the second Korean player to earn a World Series championship ring, following Kim Byunghyun (Arizona in 2001, Boston in 2004), after a 21-year gap.
