Level 4 Travel Advisory Issued from November 4 Due to Worsening Security
Due to worsening security conditions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to issue a Level 4 travel advisory, which constitutes a travel ban, for the entire territory of Mali starting from November 4.
On November 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it plans to implement a Level 4 travel advisory, prohibiting travel throughout Mali, effective November 4, as terrorist groups expand their activities across the country.
In Mali, security has deteriorated as the activities of the 'Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims' (JNIM), an organization linked to Al-Qaeda, have intensified. Bamako, the capital where most Korean nationals reside, is effectively under lockdown.
Additionally, in response to the spread of anti-government protests in Tanzania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated the Overseas Korean Protection Task Force and held a joint situation assessment meeting with headquarters and diplomatic missions on the same day.
In Tanzania, protests that began on October 29, the day of the presidential and general elections, have escalated into civil unrest, and the Tanzanian government has taken a hardline response.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is assisting in locating Korean nationals who have lost contact due to the Tanzanian government's internet shutdown. The ministry also stated that it is disseminating safety notices to Koreans staying or visiting Tanzania, and providing support such as verifying flight and accommodation information.
