Second Annual "Seoul Stroller Run" Held This Year
"The Stroller Run Itself Sends a Message to Overcome Low Birthrate"

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the second annual "Seoul Stroller Run" this year, walking alongside citizens while pushing a stroller and delivering a message of encouragement.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Stroller Run was held at 8:30 a.m. on the 1st, attracting 5,000 families and a total of about 23,000 participants. The event was first held in May, and due to strong positive feedback from citizens, a second edition was organized this fall.

This year, the scale of participation was increased fivefold, and eligibility was expanded to include not only families with children in strollers but also those with elementary school-aged children who no longer use strollers. The event proved so popular that registration for 5,000 families was filled in just one day.

The course was also extended from 5 kilometers between Gwanghwamun Square and Seoul Plaza in the first event to 7 kilometers between Gwanghwamun Square and Yeouido Park. Participants safely joined the run according to their own pace, divided into groups: the "Rabbit Class" (stroller running), the "Turtle Class" (stroller walking), and the "Graduation Class" (walking for children below elementary school age without strollers).

This year's Stroller Run was joined by running evangelist An Jung-eun, the family of Wonder Girls' Woo Hyelim, who is serving as a "Seoul Baby Ambassador" to promote the city’s low birthrate policies, fencing athlete Kim Junho from KBS's "The Return of Superman," and singer and actress Kim Yoonji's family. An Jung-eun remarked, "What matters more than today's record is the memories we build with our children," adding, "I hope the path we walk today becomes the most beautiful track in the world."

Mayor Oh stated, "During the spring event, it rained, so I promised that we would definitely hold another Stroller Run in the beautiful autumn weather, and I am happy and delighted to have kept that promise." He added, "Seeing harmonious and happy families walking and running together at the heart of Gwanghwamun Square itself sends the strongest message for overcoming the low birthrate issue."

He went on to emphasize, "Through Seoul-style kids caf?s and emergency childcare services, we will work to ease the burden on caregivers, and by faithfully implementing various policies such as providing safety bells in elementary schools and the 'Less Sweet Project,' we will create a more convenient and safer childcare environment."
