Around 1,200 Students and Visitors Expected
Boost to the Local Economy
Iksan City in North Jeolla Province announced on October 31 that the 18th National School Sports Club Festival Table Tennis Tournament will be held over three days from November 7 to 9 at the Iksan Indoor Gymnasium.
The National School Sports Club Festival is a leading student sports event, featuring a total of 18 disciplines held across 15 cities and provinces nationwide. In North Jeolla Province, the table tennis event is the only one to be hosted in Iksan.
This table tennis tournament is organized by the Ministry of Education and co-hosted by the North Jeolla Provincial Office of Education, the North Jeolla Table Tennis Association, and the Iksan City Sports Council. The competition will focus on general students rather than student athletes, with approximately 900 elementary, middle, and high school students representing 17 cities and provinces across the country participating.
The tournament will begin on November 7 with the draw and a representatives' meeting, followed by the main matches on November 8 and 9.
Iksan City and the Iksan City Sports Council actively promoted Iksan's excellent sports infrastructure, convenient transportation, and accommodation and dining options to attract the event. As a result, they successfully secured the hosting rights for this national-scale school sports club festival.
The city expects the tournament to not only serve as a platform for students from across the country to unite through sports but also to invigorate the local economy, with around 1,200 visitors including participants and their families anticipated to visit.
Jo Janghee, President of the Iksan City Sports Council, said, "As student athletes from all over the country gather in Iksan, we will do our utmost to ensure the tournament is held safely and successfully."
Mayor Jung Heonyul stated, "I hope this tournament will be a meaningful opportunity for students to develop teamwork and confidence through sports. We will continue to build Iksan into a healthy sports city where school sports and community sports grow together."
