High-Quality Courses on Career (Re)Planning, Job Competency Enhancement, Healing, and Networking
Daejeon City is receiving positive feedback for offering high-quality courses that address various youth interests, such as career (re)planning, job competency enhancement, healing, and networking, by involving local small business owners as instructors.
The "Youth Growth Project" led by Daejeon City has been selected for a Ministry of Employment and Labor public contest for two consecutive years. This project, jointly operated by Daejeon City and the Daejeon Job Economy Promotion Agency, aims to prevent youth from becoming inactive and to support their employment.
Using "Youth Cafes"-spaces freely accessible to young people-as hubs, the project provides comprehensive services ranging from consultations with professional coordinators to program offerings and connections to youth policy initiatives.
In particular, the recently introduced one-day classes, which have received strong positive responses from participants, were established to reflect the opinions of young people who wanted short-term courses in addition to regular programs. In this process, coordinators have discovered local small business owners to serve as instructors and operate these programs.
To date, classes such as wax diorama, flower arrangement, and leather craft have been offered. Through these one-day classes, the project creates a mutually beneficial environment-providing youth with opportunities for self-development and increased confidence, while giving small business owners chances to gain teaching experience and broaden their reach.
The Daejeon City Youth Growth Project will run through November. Young people wishing to participate can apply via the Daejeon Youth Cafe website. Applications are also accepted in person at the Daejeon Job Support Center, which serves as the Daejeon Youth Cafe, or by phone.
Kwon Kyungmin, Director of Economic Affairs for Daejeon City, stated, "I hope the Youth Growth Project will generate positive outcomes for both local small business owners and young people, who are experiencing challenging times due to the ongoing economic difficulties."
