Chung-Ang University Holds Seminar on Data Privacy in the Age of AI

Discussion on Industry-Academia Collaboration Strategies for Professional Workforce Development

On November 4, Chung-Ang University announced that it held a seminar titled "Data Privacy Research and Professional Workforce Development in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" to commemorate the establishment of the new Data Privacy major at the Graduate School of Convergence Security.

This seminar was co-hosted and organized by the Graduate School of Convergence Security, the Data Privacy Research Center, and the Industrial Security Research Institute at Chung-Ang University. The event was prepared to discuss the direction of data privacy research and strategies for developing professional talent required in the age of artificial intelligence.


At the seminar, Ko Nakjun, Director at the Personal Information Protection Commission, presented on "Principle-Based Regulatory Systems for the Safe Use of Personal Information in the Age of AI." Yang Seungseol, Attorney at Korea Internet & Security Agency, shared insights on "Policy Trends of the Pseudonymized Information System in the Age of AI." Noh Hyejin, Adjunct Professor at Chung-Ang University, discussed "The Current Status and Future Outlook of the Data Privacy Industry." Kim Hogi, Professor at Chung-Ang University, addressed the topic "Data Privacy and AI: Focusing on the Right to Be Forgotten."


In the subsequent panel discussion, Professor Bae Youngsik of Chung-Ang University served as moderator, leading a discussion on data privacy and professional workforce development in the AI era. Panelists included Min Jinyoung and Lee Kihyuk, Professors at Chung-Ang University; Hong Youngran, CEO of Mobidic; and Son Taejin, Attorney at Sunwoo Law Firm.


The panel emphasized that the core challenge in the AI era is balancing personal information protection and utilization. They agreed on the need to strengthen field-oriented professional workforce training and practical research collaboration systems through cooperation between the government, public institutions, industry, and academia. They also reaffirmed that data privacy protection is not only a technical challenge but also a foundation for social trust. The importance of policy and educational cooperation for building a sustainable data privacy ecosystem was also highlighted.


Meanwhile, Chung-Ang University plans to cultivate advanced professionals in the data privacy field by linking the newly established graduate-level Data Privacy major (master's and doctoral programs) with the existing undergraduate Department of Industrial Security (Data Privacy Convergence Major) and the Graduate School of Security's Department of Personal Information Protection.


In his welcoming remarks, Sung Maengje, Vice President for Research at Chung-Ang University, stated, "With the establishment of the new graduate program in Data Privacy, the university will actively support the development of research and development professionals who can simultaneously utilize and protect AI technology."
