Dunamu & Partners, the investment subsidiary of Dunamu, announced on October 30 that it has invested in Pasqal, a France-based startup specializing in neutral atom quantum computing technology.
Pasqal, founded in 2019 at the Institut d'Optique in France, is a neutral atom quantum computing company. Among its five founders is Professor Alain Aspect, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2022. Pasqal is developing quantum computing technology utilizing two- and three-dimensional arrays of neutral atoms. Together with global corporate partners, it is leading the commercialization of quantum computing technology across various industries, including healthcare, finance, energy, defense, and mobility.
Pasqal is promoting the first international public-private quantum computing partnership in the Asia-Pacific region, based in Korea. The company plans to create jobs for more than 50 highly skilled researchers in Korea, introduce neutral atom-based quantum processing units (QPUs), and accelerate research and development of quantum algorithms and industrial applications. Through these efforts, Pasqal aims to establish Korea as a key hub in the global quantum ecosystem. This partnership is supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Loic Henriet, CEO of Pasqal, stated, "With investments from LG Electronics and Dunamu & Partners, and collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, we have built a unique ecosystem that will accelerate the adoption of quantum computing in the Asia-Pacific region."
Wasik Bokhari, Chairman of the Board at Pasqal, emphasized, "Our entry into Korea serves as a strategic base for collaborating with world-class companies and research institutions. It will mark an important milestone in leading the commercialization of quantum technology in the Asia-Pacific market."
Lee Kangjun, CEO of Dunamu & Partners, commented, "Pasqal is setting a new global standard in quantum technology and has the potential to commercialize solutions that go beyond the limitations of conventional computing. We expect that research and industrial collaboration within Korea will contribute to the growth of the domestic quantum computing ecosystem."
Dunamu & Partners is an investment subsidiary established by Dunamu in 2018 to invigorate the startup ecosystem. The company focuses on investing in startups that are driving digital transformation in the financial industry, securing global technological competitiveness, and creating social impact. To date, it has invested a cumulative total of 206.7 billion won in 72 startups, including Korea Credit Data, Travel Wallet, Rebellion, Kraft Technologies, and InnoClass.
