"This Is Worth a Photo"... US VIPs Captivated by the 'PEACE Dessert'

Kang Hoon-sik, Chief Presidential Secretary, released a photo of the dessert served as the final course at the South Korea-US summit lunch, stating that this menu helped create a warmer and more congenial atmosphere at the luncheon.

On the 29th, Kang posted a photo of the dessert from the summit lunch on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "All of the US staff were taking pictures," and added, "It was a moment when I could feel just how good the atmosphere was today."

The released photo shows a dessert plate featuring a golden tangerine dessert and a brownie decorated with gold leaf. Notably, the plate is adorned with the word "PEACE!" in lettering. This appears to be a nod to President Lee's remark during the summit in August, when he told President Trump, "If you become a 'peacemaker,' I will do my best to support you as a 'pacemaker.'"

Kang stated, "In this era of the new normal, I know the public must be exhausted by the ongoing negotiations," and added, "I am truly relieved to be able to deliver the news of progress and reduced uncertainty in the negotiations."

Attending the luncheon on the South Korean side were Chief Secretary Kang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yooncheol, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeonggwan, Presidential Policy Chief Kim Yongbeom, National Security Advisor Wi Sunglak, and Trade Minister Yeo Hangu.

Representing the United States were Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Besant, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and United States Trade Representative Jamison Greer.

The lunch menu featured a Korean fusion course meal using seasonal ingredients and local specialties from across South Korea, as well as US beef. The meal began with an appetizer served with Thousand Island dressing, originating from President Trump's hometown of New York, followed by braised short ribs made with US beef, new rice from Gyeongju (the host city), Gongju chestnuts, Pyeongchang radishes and carrots, and Cheonan mushrooms.
