Nation’s Largest Hydrogen Production Capacity Using Biogas
On the 29th, Yeongcheon City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the "Integrated Project for Clean Hydrogen Production Based on Biogas" at the city hall video conference room, with Mayor Choi Kimoon, Song Hyosoon, CEO of Ecobio Holdings Co., Ltd., and other officials in attendance.
This project aims to establish an eco-friendly energy circulation system that produces and supplies clean hydrogen using biogas generated from food waste and other sources. It is a new resource circulation model that addresses both waste treatment and energy production simultaneously.

The total project cost is 26 billion KRW. Yeongcheon City and Ecobio Holdings Co., Ltd. will cooperate to build the nation’s largest clean hydrogen production facility, capable of producing 1,000 kilograms per day, in the Chilbaek-ro area of Kumho-eup, near the organic waste treatment plant.
Ecobio Holdings Co., Ltd., established in April 1989, is a KOSDAQ-listed small but strong company that has been engaged in biogas resource utilization and renewable energy development in the environmental energy sector for 36 years. In 2024 and 2025, the company was selected for biogas-based private sector projects and is expanding its business to Magok in Seoul and Yeongcheon.
Once the project is completed, it is expected to produce 1,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day, which will contribute to revitalizing the local hydrogen economy by supplying hydrogen to hydrogen vehicle charging stations. Additionally, various environmental benefits, including greenhouse gas reduction, are anticipated.
Choi Kimoon, Mayor of Yeongcheon City, stated, "This integrated project for clean hydrogen production will serve as a catalyst for Yeongcheon City to become a key hub leading the carbon-neutral era," adding, "We will work together with our citizens to build a sustainable energy circulation city."
