The Chun Kyung-Ja exhibition began with a special exhibition celebrating her 100th birthday in Goheung in 2024, and, through cooperation with her family, achieved the permanent loan of her works.
For this 10th anniversary remastered exhibition, replicas of works approved by the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s copyright office are being showcased alongside various pieces. Through media artist Lee Lee-Nam’s artificial intelligence (AI) works, visitors can see Chun Kyung-Ja as she was in life and experience her art in new ways.
The exhibition features around 40 works by Chun Kyung-Ja from the Seoul Museum of Art’s collection, personal belongings permanently loaned to Goheung County by her family, and media art pieces by Lee Lee-Nam.
Major works on display include “Ecology,” “The 22 Pages of My Sad Legend,” “Ah! Heartless,” “Fantastic Journey,” “Italian Travelogue,” “Grand Canyon,” “Hippie,” “Gauguin Museum Garden,” and “Reed Search Operation,” including pieces that have not been shown in Goheung over the past decade.
Visitors commented, “The texture and colors of the original paintings are so vivid, it feels as if the artist is right beside us,” and “I am proud to be able to see such a high-quality exhibition here in Goheung.”
An official from the county stated, “This exhibition, where the works of a world-renowned artist born in Goheung can be seen in her hometown, will be a meaningful experience for both residents and visitors. We hope that even more people will visit before the exhibition ends on December 7.”
This exhibition runs until December 7 at the Goheung Art Center and is open to the public free of charge.
