Pohang City held the 'Invest KOREA Summit 2025' local government meeting and industrial inspection on the 29th at the Lahan Hotel in preparation for the 2025 APEC Summit.
This industrial inspection was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA. It provided an opportunity for foreign investors to visit local industrial sites in person, allowing them to assess industrial infrastructure, investment environment, and living conditions, thereby supporting their future investment decisions.
This year, four locations were selected for the industrial inspection: Pohang City, Suwon City, Ulsan City, and the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency. The event served as an opportunity to promote each region's industrial competitiveness and investment environment to an international audience.
The meeting was attended by about 30 people, including overseas investors, foreign correspondents, and representatives of foreign-invested companies in Pohang. The agenda included presentations on Pohang's industrial infrastructure and investment environment, case studies from local foreign-invested companies, a Q&A and discussion on cooperation measures, and a tour of industrial complexes.
Pohang City introduced and shared the competitiveness, development strategies, and investment vision for next-generation industries such as secondary batteries, hydrogen, bio, AI, and digital technologies, focusing on the Yeongilman General Industrial Complex, Blue Valley National Industrial Complex, and Pohang Convergence Technology Industrial Zone. In particular, the city shared updates and future visions for the development of a complex marine leisure tourism city.
Additionally, two leading companies based in the Yeongilman Industrial Complex's parts and materials exclusive park-EcoPro Materials and Ibiden Graphite Korea-presented their technological strengths and global growth visions.
EcoPro Materials is driving the sustainable growth of Korea's battery industry by supplying key raw materials for secondary batteries. Ibiden Graphite Korea, a global company with world-class technology in the production of isotropic synthetic graphite, plays a pivotal role in the advanced materials sector.
After the meeting, participants visited both companies to observe Pohang's advanced industrial sites firsthand, touring production facilities and technological infrastructure to assess the city's advanced industry ecosystem and investment potential. They also visited Space Walk, one of Pohang's major tourist attractions, to experience the charm of a city where industry and culture coexist.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "This industrial inspection is a valuable opportunity to showcase Pohang's innovative industrial ecosystem to the world," adding, "We will strengthen investment attraction and international cooperation by expanding infrastructure and improving living conditions, making Pohang a city that global investors can trust and choose."
The city plans to use this inspection, which served as a platform for practical discussions on expanding the new industry economic zone centered on Pohang, to strengthen its global investment network and ramp up investment promotion activities, accelerating its transformation into a city focused on advanced industries.
