Uljin Geumgang Pine Mountain Agriculture Recognized Globally!... Receives FAO Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Certificate

Uljin County Elevates International Status of Regional Agriculture

Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province will attend the "2025 GIAHS Certificate Award Ceremony" to be held at the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) headquarters in Rome, Italy, on October 31, where it will receive the certificate recognizing the "Uljin Geumgang Pine Mountain Agricultural System" as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System.


This international event, hosted and organized by the FAO, aims to promote the sustainable conservation and dissemination of the value of agricultural heritage worldwide.

Uljin Geumgang Pine Mountain Agriculture Recognized Globally!... Receives FAO Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Certificate Uljin Geumgang Pine Mountain Agricultural System Registered as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (Sogwangri).

Uljin County will have the honor of receiving the certificate on behalf of the Uljin Geumgang Pine Mountain Agricultural Heritage, which was designated in July.


Along with Uljin County, the recipients of this year’s certificate include Hadong County and Gwangyang City (for the traditional hand net fishing for freshwater clams), Jeju Island (for the Jeju Haenyeo women divers), and Namhae County (for the Jukbangnyeom fish trap).


During the event, Uljin County will operate an exhibition and promotional booth related to GIAHS at the FAO headquarters’ Atrium and the 8th floor Terrace. The county plans to promote the region using products such as Geumgang Pine Liquor, Wasong Juice, Pinecone Bread, Geumgang Pine Fabric Perfume, and brochures.


In addition to the GIAHS award ceremony, Uljin County will also engage in benchmarking activities, including learning about advanced cases of eco-friendly agriculture in Europe.


The county aims to use this GIAHS award ceremony to raise international awareness of the region’s agricultural heritage, boost rural tourism, enhance the brand value of local agricultural products, and ultimately increase regional income.


County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, “This GIAHS certification is a testament to the global recognition of Uljin’s mountain agriculture and the value of the Geumgang Pine. We will continue to preserve Uljin’s traditional agriculture and natural resources, and pursue sustainable regional development based on these assets.”
