Trump: "May Discuss Nvidia 'Blackwell Chip' with Xi Jinping"

"Praise for 'Super Duper' Technology 10 Years Ahead"
Trump Hints at Allowing Sales to China
China Bans Nvidia Purchases

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he may discuss Nvidia's advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chip, 'Blackwell,' during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump: "May Discuss Nvidia 'Blackwell Chip' with Xi Jinping"

On October 29, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea, President Trump said, "The Nvidia Blackwell AI processor could be discussed during my meeting with President Xi." He added, "We are going to talk about Blackwell. It is a truly super duper chip."

Blackwell is Nvidia's latest generation AI semiconductor architecture, referring to its next-generation graphics processing unit (GPU) lineup used for AI training and large language model (LLM) operations. It is considered the most advanced chip architecture among Nvidia's current products.

Praising Blackwell's technological prowess, President Trump said, "Nvidia's chips are about ten years ahead of any other semiconductors." He continued, "That is our country. We are at least ten years ahead of any other nation in advanced semiconductors," adding, "I think I will be discussing this issue with President Xi."

President Trump's remarks come at a time when uncertainty has grown for Nvidia due to U.S. export controls. Nvidia was once considered the dominant player in the Chinese AI semiconductor market, but it is currently unable to sell AI chips to China due to tightened U.S. regulations on advanced semiconductors.

In July, the United States eased some export restrictions on Nvidia's 'H20' chip, which was developed for the Chinese market, but the export of high-performance products remains prohibited.

In August, President Trump took a somewhat softer stance, saying, "We may allow the sale of a lower-performance version of the Blackwell chip to China." However, the Chinese government recently imposed restrictions on domestic companies importing Nvidia products.Earlier this month, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated, "Nvidia has now completely withdrawn from the Chinese market, and our market share is 0%."

According to CNBC, experts believe China is likely using access to its domestic market as a bargaining chip in U.S.-China trade negotiations.
