Experts from 12 Countries Gather in Yeongju
Global Discussions and Cooperation on Bearing Standards
Yeongju City announced that it hosted the "2025 International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 123) Bearing Standards Committee General Assembly" at the Seonbi Sangsang Convention Hall in Sunheung-myeon from October 28 to 31, 2025.
This General Assembly was organized by the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and co-hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Yeongju City, and the ISO/TC 123 Bearing Standards Committee. More than 50 representatives and experts from 12 member countries, including Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, India, and France, attended the event.
During the General Assembly, in-depth discussions were held on the establishment and revision of international standards in the field of plain bearings, the direction of technological development, and cooperation among member countries. There was also a wide-ranging exchange of views on global industry trends and future international standardization strategies, making it a meaningful occasion to share the future direction of the global bearing industry.
Plain bearings are a type of bearing in which the rotating shaft moves by sliding directly against a metal surface without balls or rollers. They are used as key components across major industries such as automotive, aerospace, and power generation equipment.
This was the second time the General Assembly was held in Korea since the 2013 event in Jeju, and it was particularly significant as Yeongju City emerged as a central stage for global discussions on bearing standards.
Taking this opportunity, Yeongju City plans to actively promote the "Advanced Bearing National Industrial Complex" project to the international community and expand its cooperative network with global companies and research institutions.
Yu Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, stated, "This General Assembly was a meaningful occasion where experts from around the world discussed international standards and future strategies for the plain bearing industry. Building on this, Yeongju will strive to become a hub for global technological cooperation and lay the foundation for strengthening the competitiveness of domestic industries."
