Approximately 150 people attended the 'Edison Hall Opening Ceremony,' including President Kwak Hosang; Shin Hongchul, Head of the Future Advanced Industry Division of Gyeongbuk Province; Jeon Myungseong, Head of the Semiconductor and Defense Industry Division of Gumi City; Kim Jongsoo, Head of the Semiconductor Specialization University Project Group at Yeungnam University; Lee Hyun-gwon, Head of the Gyeongbuk Gumi Semiconductor Specialized Complex Promotion Group; as well as key representatives from major semiconductor companies, alumni, and faculty members.

National Assemblyman Koo Jagun, Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheolwoo, and Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho sent congratulatory messages to celebrate the opening of Edison Hall.

The Edison Hall project at Kumoh National Institute of Technology was confirmed in 2019, and the new building was completed in March this year.

With a total floor area of 3,980 square meters (four floors above ground), the facility is equipped with a semiconductor cleanroom, two HyFlex advanced lecture rooms, five general lecture rooms, a computer lab, research labs, and experimental labs.

Within Edison Hall are the Semiconductor Specialized Research Institute, the Semiconductor Specialization University Project Group, the Advanced Defense Convergence Research Institute, and Edison College (School of Industrial Convergence, School of Creative Convergence). Through a variety of major curricula and industry-academia-research collaboration activities, the facility contributes to nurturing talents and advancing the semiconductor and defense sectors, which are key industries in the region.

The opening ceremony began with a declaration of commencement, followed by a welcoming address and congratulatory remarks, a report on the building's progress, an introduction of the Semiconductor Specialization University Project, a plaque presentation ceremony, a ribbon-cutting and commemorative photo session, and a tour of the facilities.

In particular, to honor alumni who have contributed to the university's development, a plaque presentation ceremony was held for the 'Choi Euno Hall,' 'Yoon Jaeho Lecture Room,' and 'Kwak Hyeongeun Lecture Room,' which have been established as key spaces within Edison Hall. Choi Euno, CEO of A-System Co., Ltd. (Department of Electronic Engineering, Class of 1982), and Oh Changgyu, Executive Director of Joo Kwang Precision, attended the ceremony. After the event, a facility tour of Edison Hall was conducted for key internal and external guests.

President Kwak Hosang of Kumoh National Institute of Technology stated, "Edison Hall at Kumoh National Institute of Technology will serve as a hub for nurturing convergence talents in advanced industries, created in collaboration with the region and the university, and will be responsible for driving industrial and research cooperation that leads to the growth and development of the local community. I am confident that Edison Hall will become a driving force for a quantum leap into a new future for the university, and I hope that the future convergence technology talents who will grow here will lead the era of super-gap innovation."
