Trump Says "We Did Not Come to Korea to See Canada"...Refuses Talks with Canada [Gyeongju APEC]

Trump Reacts Strongly to Canadian TV Ad Criticizing Tariffs
Declares an End to Trade Talks with Canada

On October 29, President Donald Trump of the United States stated that he has no intention of holding trade negotiations with Canada during his stay in Korea for the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and related events.

Trump Says "We Did Not Come to Korea to See Canada"...Refuses Talks with Canada [Gyeongju APEC] A post by President Donald Trump on his Truth Social on the 29th.

On this day, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, his self-created social networking service, "A lot of people are asking, but we did not come to Korea to see Canada."

President Trump posted this message immediately after arriving in Korea, reaffirming his existing position that trade talks with Canada will not resume for the time being.

Although Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is visiting Korea to attend the APEC summit, President Trump made it clear that he will not discuss trade matters with him.

Previously, President Trump declared a suspension of trade negotiations with Canada on October 23, after the Ontario provincial government aired a TV commercial quoting former President Ronald Reagan’s past speech, which claimed that the Trump administration’s tariff policy would negatively impact the U.S. economy. He also announced an additional 10% increase in tariffs on Canadian imports.

In response, Prime Minister Carney, while attending the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, attempted to ease tensions by stating, "If the United States is ready, we are prepared to sit down with them." However, these efforts were not enough to quell President Trump’s anger.

Despite Canada’s conciliatory messages, President Trump drew a clear line regarding the possibility of meeting with Prime Minister Carney in Korea, stating, "We will not meet for the time being."
