Indefinite General Strike Begins at Midnight on the 29th
On October 29, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it is making every effort to ensure the normal operation of airports nationwide, including Gimhae Airport, in response to a strike notice issued by the labor union of its subsidiary during the '2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.'

On this day, Acting President Lee Jungki requested the management of the subsidiary to take proactive measures to resolve the strike through amicable negotiations with the labor union. Acting President Lee, along with Son Jongha, Head of Operations, the Director of Gimhae Airport, and other executives, held an emergency meeting with the President of Nambu Airport Service, the subsidiary responsible for the operation and maintenance of Gimhae Airport, to discuss strike response measures. The agenda included deploying essential maintenance personnel and substitute staff, strengthening on-site response to ensure normal airport operations, and providing real-time information.
In preparation for the strike, the corporation conducted a joint on-site inspection with its subsidiaries in mid-October, and prioritized the deployment of available personnel to airports hosting APEC events, such as Gimhae Airport and Pohang Gyeongju Airport. Since the previous day, Acting President Lee has been stationed at Gimhae Airport, personally conducting on-site inspections.
The National Airport Workers' Solidarity, comprised of the Incheon Airport Branch of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union and the National Airport Labor Union, held a press conference in front of Gimhae Airport the previous day, announcing an indefinite general strike starting at midnight on the 29th. The strike targets 14 airports nationwide, including Gimhae. These workers are responsible for runway and terminal maintenance, as well as the management of electrical facilities at airports across the country.
Acting President Lee stated, "Under any circumstances, the corporation will place the highest priority on the safety and convenience of the public, and will do its utmost to ensure stable airport operations and support the APEC Summit."
