A tragic incident occurred in Azerbaijan where a bride ended her own life after being criticized by the groom’s family for the revealing nature of her wedding dress. On October 27 (local time), the British Daily Mail reported on the heartbreaking story of a 19-year-old bride in Azerbaijan.

Recently, the bride, Leyman Mammadli, wore a wedding dress that exposed her shoulders at her wedding. However, the groom, Elnur Mammadli, and his family harshly criticized her, saying, "She looks naked," "It's shameful," and "She has disgraced the family." The wedding, which should have been a joyful occasion, turned cold in an instant, and the issue continued even after the ceremony. After the wedding, the groom’s family went to the bride’s parents’ house and criticized her throughout the night. Azerbaijan is a predominantly Muslim country where wearing a hijab is not legally required, but in some regions, conservative views on women's clothing remain strong.

The bride’s parents explained, "The wedding dress our daughter wore was just one of the ordinary dresses that many brides wear," but the groom’s family did not stop their criticism. The argument continued into the next day, and the bride, suffering from severe psychological pressure and distress, ultimately took her own life. She was deeply hurt by the harsh criticism and could not withstand the extreme stress. The bride’s father shared the heartbreaking news, saying, "Not long after all this happened, my daughter ended her life in the garden." He also revealed that he expelled the groom from his daughter’s funeral. Local police are currently investigating whether criminal charges will be filed regarding the bullying and coercive remarks that led to the bride’s death.
