The Daegu Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Shin Hongsik) announced on October 27 that Jang Gyesup (57), an employee in the accounting department at Daegu City Hall, commemorated his daughter's wedding by making a meaningful donation instead of giving gifts to his colleagues, thus practicing a significant act of sharing.
While preparing for his daughter's wedding on October 25, Mr. Jang considered how best to express his gratitude to the colleagues who congratulated him. Instead of the usual snacks or souvenirs, he decided to make a donation with that budget to help neighbors in need as a token of appreciation.
Mr. Jang Gyesup, a public official at Daegu City Hall, donated 1,152,000 won as a charitable contribution to help neighbors after his daughter's wedding.
Donor Jang Gyesup shared, "It might seem a bit unconventional, but I didn't think it was necessary to reciprocate in the same way as always. I wanted to convey my gratitude to those who celebrated with me in a more meaningful way, and I thought it would be even more rewarding to share the joy of giving together."
He donated a total of 1,152,000 won, which consisted of 576,000 won-the amount he would have spent on gifts-and an additional 576,000 won as a gesture of happiness. Mr. Jang has consistently engaged in acts of sharing, such as blood donation, participating in the Mugunghwa Volunteer Group, and pledging to donate his organs.
Kang Juhyun, Secretary General of the Daegu Community Chest of Korea, stated, "This is a meaningful donation case where family, colleagues, and the local community shared warmth through the special occasion of a wedding. I hope this very simple yet innovative way of giving will resonate with many people and serve as a great opportunity for them to participate as well."
