LG HelloVision Also Accepted Voluntary Retirement Applications Until the Previous Day
SK Broadband is reportedly considering a voluntary retirement program.
According to industry sources on October 29, SK Broadband plans to collect applications for voluntary retirement from employees who are either over 50 years old or have worked for the company for more than 15 years. The severance pay is expected to be up to 500 million won.
The industry believes that SK Broadband is implementing voluntary retirement in order to focus its resources on new businesses such as AI data centers. Previously, its parent company SK Telecom also carried out a voluntary retirement program for employees at its in-house independent company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI).
Recently, the pay TV industry has been facing difficulties due to the growth of online video services (OTT) and the increase in single-person households. LG HelloVision also accepted voluntary retirement applications from all employees until the previous day. Those who applied will leave the company on November 30.
An SK Broadband representative stated, "We are reviewing various options in consideration of changes in the business environment and the needs of our employees," adding, "We will provide further updates once a decision is made."
