Gymnasium Expansion Now Possible at Gakgol Elementary, Sirang Elementary, and Seoksu Middle Schools
In Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, the city has eased construction regulations related to school facilities to allow for the expansion of gymnasiums at three elementary and middle schools.
On October 29, Ansan City announced that a proposal to raise the building coverage ratio for schools located in natural green areas from 20% to 30% recently passed the review of the Ansan City Urban Planning Committee.
This increase in the building coverage ratio aims to remove obstacles to expanding educational infrastructure, such as gymnasiums and cafeterias, by easing regulations.
With this relaxation of regulations, three schools-Gakgol Elementary School, Sirang Elementary School, and Seoksu Middle School-will now be able to construct additional facilities. As a result, each school will be able to expand their gymnasiums and cafeterias, addressing the inconvenience caused by a lack of space.
In addition, the city plans to expand its "School Facility Opening Project," which makes school facilities available to the local community. The city expects that, with this regulatory easing, agreements made during gymnasium expansions will allow for more sports and cultural spaces to be shared with local residents.
Lee Minguen, Mayor of Ansan, stated, "We will continue to work closely with the Office of Education and schools to improve students' learning environments and to ensure that public education infrastructure contributes to the development of the local community."
