Two people were killed and one person was injured in a series of traffic accidents in Damyang County and Sinan County, South Jeolla Province.
According to Damyang Police Station on October 29, at around 10:09 p.m. the previous day, an elderly man in his 80s, identified as A, was struck by a passenger car while jaywalking on a two-lane road in Damyang-eup.
Immediately after the accident, B, a driver in his 50s, was checking on A's condition when an SUV, failing to notice them, hit both individuals in a secondary collision.
As a result of these consecutive accidents, A died and B was injured and transported to the hospital. However, it has not been confirmed whether A had already died from the initial accident. The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident and determine responsibility.
At around 1:00 a.m. that same day in Jeungdo-myeon, Sinan County, a passenger car traveling through an intersection crashed into a parked vehicle, overturned onto its side, and caught fire.
Firefighters responded to a witness report and extinguished the blaze in 39 minutes, but the driver was found dead inside the car. The police are having difficulty identifying the victim due to the extent of the fire damage to the body.
The police plan to confirm the deceased's identity through DNA analysis and further investigate the cause of the accident by reviewing closed-circuit (CC) TV footage.
