Reflected in November Water Bill Statements
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on October 29 that it will provide a 20% reduction in water bills for households affected by the tap water turbidity incidents that occurred in parts of Unjeong between September and October.
This measure is a follow-up action in response to two tap water turbidity (foreign substance) incidents that occurred in Unjeong 1-dong (Garam Village, Byeolharam Village) and Unjeong 4-dong (Yadang-dong, Sangjiseok-dong) in September and October. The city explained that the reduced amount will be reflected in the November water bill statements.
The water bill reduction applies to apartment complexes, single-family and multi-family homes, and commercial properties that were affected by the turbidity incidents in September and October. Eligible households will automatically receive a 20% reduction on their water usage for the affected month, without the need to apply separately.
Meanwhile, in addition to the water bill reduction, the city is also proceeding with compensation procedures for households affected by the tap water turbidity. For the incident in September, applications for compensation will be accepted until November 23, and for the October incident, until November 30. Compensation will be provided sequentially for expenses such as the replacement of water purifier and showerhead filters, water tank cleaning costs, business loss expenses, and medical treatment and medication costs.
Kim Kyoungil, Mayor of Paju, stated, "This reduction in water bills is an appropriate compensation measure for citizens who suffered inconvenience and losses due to the turbidity incidents during the water supply process. We will continue to prioritize the supply of clean and safe tap water and implement water administration that citizens can trust."
