[2025 Audit] Jin Jongo: "Sports Sector Only Acts After Incidents... Establish a Prevention System"

Jin Jongo, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, pointed out the lack of a system for managing incidents and accidents within sports federations under the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.

During the National Assembly audit conducted by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee on the 27th, Assemblyman Jin stated, "The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee does not conduct separate regular inspections regarding incidents and accidents occurring within sports federations," and emphasized, "It is necessary to establish a manual for incident and accident prevention and to introduce a regular inspection system."

He added, "The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee only requests materials from federations or forms an interview and inspection team to verify facts after an incident occurs," criticizing, "Their response is limited to post-incident measures, and there is no system for preemptive inspection or prevention."

According to data submitted to Assemblyman Jin by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, the organization does not regularly inspect whether incidents or accidents have occurred within each sports federation. When an incident occurs, their response is limited to verifying facts through interviews with those involved or forming an inspection team, followed by subsequent measures.

As a result, it has been pointed out that if incidents are concealed within a federation or not made public externally, it is virtually impossible for the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee to respond at the organizational level.

In response, Yoo Seungmin, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, stated, "From now on, we will not limit ourselves to post-incident measures but will prepare more preventive strategies," adding, "We will increase personnel dedicated to managing incidents and accidents in the sports sector and pursue a budget increase to establish effective preventive measures, such as building a 'Safe Sports' system for preemptive monitoring."
