Introducing a Social Mix with Both Rental and For-Sale Units
Construction to Begin in 2027... Improving Aging Low-Rise Residential Areas
A total of 551 public housing units will be built in an aging residential area near Yongma Tunnel in Jungnang-gu, Seoul.
On October 29, Seoul City announced that the 4th Integrated Public Housing Review Committee conditionally approved the "Urban Public Housing Complex Project Plan near Yongma Tunnel, Seoul" for the area around 1075 Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang-gu.
The site is a low-rise residential area densely packed with apartment buildings, where improving the living environment is an urgent priority. The city plans to designate the area as a special construction zone and develop it into six buildings, ranging from six basement floors to a maximum of 28 above-ground floors, on a land area of 18,904 square meters.
The urban public housing complex near Yongma Tunnel will offer a total of 551 public housing units. The units will be available in exclusive sizes of 36, 49, 59, and 84 square meters, and a social mix will be implemented by combining rental and for-sale units.
Additionally, plans include improving the residential environment, creating street-level retail along Yongmasan-ro, enhancing pedestrian connectivity, and arranging community facilities in connection with green spaces and roads. In response to residents' needs, various community facilities such as a fitness center, pop-up store, small library, guesthouse, and a multi-care center for children will also be installed.
Reflecting the results of the public housing review, the city plans to obtain final approval for the complex project plan by the end of this year and aims to begin construction in 2027.
Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing at Seoul City, stated, "With this review, the urban public housing complex project near Yongma Tunnel has entered a full-fledged development phase. We expect it will secure development density for aging low-rise residential areas, harmonize with surrounding neighborhoods, and contribute to the revitalization of the urban area."
