This year marks the 33rd APEC Summit, and for the first time in 20 years since the 2005 APEC Busan Summit, Korea will serve as the chair country and host the meeting. APEC was launched in 1989 as a ministerial meeting of 12 countries in Canberra, Australia, and was elevated to a summit in 1993 at the suggestion of U.S. President Bill Clinton. Since then, it has developed into the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, with 21 member economies participating from across the region.

As the chair country of APEC 2025, Korea has set "Connect," "Innovate," and "Prosper" as its three main priorities and plans to discuss with the leaders of member economies ways to realize the "Putrajaya Vision 2040."

This collection of digital goods was created under three themes to announce the restoration of Korea's summit diplomacy and to wish for the successful hosting of APEC 2025 KOREA. First, the "APEC 2025 Official Emblem" and "Bojagi" goods symbolize the harmony among the 21 APEC members and express the spirit of APEC cooperation. The "UN Visit" goods reflect the diplomatic stature of the Republic of Korea, as demonstrated by its speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, marking its return to the international community. The "Cultural Heritage" goods showcase the cultural heritage of Gyeongju, home to a thousand years of Silla history, in digital form, embodying Korea's unique dignity and regional identity.

The Office of the President stated, "We hope that these goods, which embody the beauty of Korean tradition, will encourage tourism to Gyeongju and contribute to regional development," adding, "We also look forward to APEC 2025, which Korea is hosting as chair country for the first time in 20 years, becoming a stage for practical diplomacy."

Meanwhile, the "APEC 2025 KOREA Gyeongju Commemorative Digital Goods" consist of a total of 21 items, including four types of Android smartwatch watch faces, nine types of Apple Watch wallpapers, and eight types of smartphone universal wallpapers. They are available for free download on the official website and blog of the Office of the President.
