Authorities have launched an investigation after a worker at a pickled food factory in China was seen smoking and even spitting while on duty.

According to the Market Supervision Administration of Xingcheng City, Liaoning Province, China, on the 27th (local time), an immediate investigation and crackdown were carried out on the night of the 26th regarding issues recently raised online. The authorities announced that all products in question would be collected and disposed of.

The authorities explained that the problematic products had not been distributed to the market. They also added that if any illegal acts by the manufacturer are confirmed, they will impose strict punishment in accordance with the law.

Previously, a video showing work at a "Xuanchai" factory, where vegetables such as cabbage and mustard greens are pickled with salt and spices, became a hot topic on various Chinese social networking services. In the video, a man holding a hook and wearing boots is seen standing inside a container filled with "Xuanchai," smoking while working and spitting during the process.

Xuanchai is a pickled food that is enjoyed in China in a manner similar to "Zhacai," which is also popular among Koreans and is exported to Korea due to its high demand. However, it has not been confirmed whether the products in question were among those exported to Korea.

Chinese netizens who saw the video also expressed outrage. Reactions included, "It's so disgusting, and they must be punished. People like this bring shame to China."
