Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) has been selected as an "Outstanding University" in the 2024 Government Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (GKS · Global Korea Scholarship) university evaluation, organized by the National Institute for International Education.
Out of 88 GKS-participating universities nationwide, only nine universities (Dongseo University, Ajou University, Dong-A University, Yonsei University, Kyung Hee University, Kyungpook National University, KDI School, Kyungbok University, and Daegu University) received the "Outstanding University" designation in this evaluation, which reflects recognition of their systematic support for international students and the quality of their education.
The GKS Government Scholarship Program is an international scholarship initiative run by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for International Education of the Republic of Korea to attract talented individuals from around the world. It offers full scholarships for international students to pursue studies and research at Korean institutions of higher education.
Universities selected as GKS Outstanding Universities are officially recognized for their excellence in international student management and support systems, and are awarded the "GKS Outstanding University Certification Mark."
In particular, Dongseo University achieved perfect scores in all mandatory evaluation criteria this year and received high marks for its support of scholarship recipients in cultural and daily life, as well as career and employment assistance.
Currently, Dongseo University has about 1,800 international students from over 60 countries, including 115 GKS Government Scholarship recipients who receive full scholarships from the Korean government.
To enhance academic achievement and ensure a stable study abroad experience for international students, Dongseo University continues to expand a variety of tailored support services, including Korean language and cultural education, career and life counseling, and community engagement programs.
Recognized for its international competitiveness and commitment to supporting international students, Dongseo University has also been selected for the Ministry of Education's "Glocal University 30" project. Building on this, the university is actively pursuing strategies to foster "glocal leaders in the global arena" by establishing an innovative educational model that connects the local community with the world, operating international joint degree programs, and expanding cooperation with overseas partner universities.
Han Kyungho, Director of the Office of International Affairs, stated, "Being selected as a GKS Outstanding University is external recognition of our university's international competitiveness and our capacity to support international students. We will continue to do our best to attract more outstanding international students and to strengthen systematic support."
